DEFENDAS ID App User Manual: (PDF User Manual at the bottom Link)
This manual introduces the operations of the DEFENDAS ID App,
which allows end users to use their smartphones as secure access credentials to enter workplaces
Here is a brief introduction to the DEFENDAS ID App and its usage instructions for first-time users.
Introduction to DEFENDAS ID App
DEFENDAS ID is a mobile application that allows end users to use their smartphones as secure and convenient access credentials, replacing traditional physical cards for entering the workplace.
1. Diverse Interaction Modes
- Card Mode: The user brings their mobile device very close to (0 to 20 inches) or touches the reader, providing an experience similar to using a physical card.
- Remote Mode: This allows users to perform remote access control within a set range of up to 394 inches.
- QR Code Scanning: A dynamic QR code is displayed directly on the mobile credential in the app, which can be scanned by supported readers to open the door.
- NFC: If both the phone and reader support NFC, users can swipe their phone for access, which is generally faster and more power-efficient than Bluetooth.
2. First-Time Setup Process
- Download: Search for "DEFENDAS ID" in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
- Account Generation: Your company administrator or HR officer will first transfer your basic information into the Defendas Credential Management System (DCMS) to generate your electronic voucher.
- Activation: You will receive an email containing an activation code. You can activate your credential using one of three methods:
- Click the activation link in the email for automatic setup.
- Manually enter the activation code into the app.
- Use the app's scan function to scan the QR code in the email.
Important Cautions (Must-Read for New Users)
To ensure your access credentials function correctly and securely, please keep the following in mind:
- Credentials are Device-Bound: Mobile credentials cannot be transferred to a new or different mobile device. If you change your phone, you must contact your administrator to report the change and have them re-issue and resend a new credential via DCMS.
- Deletion is Permanent: Once a credential is deleted within the app, it cannot be recovered. If deleted by mistake, you must contact your administrator to issue a new one (which will likely have a different card number).
- Permission Settings:
- Bluetooth: Must be turned on for BLE sensing or scanning activation.
- Location Services: To enable background access (sensing readers while the app is closed), you must grant the app Location and related permissions.
- Camera: Permission is required if you choose to activate by scanning a QR code.
- Battery Optimization: Some smartphones may force-close background apps to save power. If you want to open doors without manually opening the app every time, it is recommended to disable battery optimization for the DEFENDAS ID App in your phone's settings.
- Lost Phone Protocol: If your mobile device is lost or stolen, treat it as a lost physical access card and notify your security administrator immediately to revoke its permissions.
- Updates and Upgrades: Your activated credentials will be preserved and remain functional even if you upgrade the app or your phone's operating system.
