Access Control FAQ
What are the Minimum Specs for NVMS7000 PC Client?
The Minimum Specs for NVMS7000 PC Client are as follows:
Quad Core i5 Processor
8GB RAM
What is a Super User?
When you first install NVMS7000 PC Client you will need to create a username and password for logging into NVMS7000 PC Client. This is the Super User. This user is only local to the computer NVMS7000 is installed on. (This means that you cannot log into the same user account from another computer, since the username is only stored in NVMS7000 PC Client on the computer it was created on.)
How to Activate a Device.
You can use Platinum IP Portal to activate your Access Control Devices, just like you would an IP Camera, NVR/DVR. Additionally, on the lower portion “Online Device” of NVMS7000 PC Client “Device Management” Tab, you can activate your Devices, and assign IP Addresses to your Devices. This lower portion of NVMS7000 PC Client’s Device Management Tab functions similarly to Platinum IP Portal.
How to Add a Device to NVMS7000.
Once you have Activated your Device, you can then add the device into the software under the “Device Management” Tab. You can either select the “+ Add” button under “Device for Management” to manually enter all the device information. Or you can select the device in the lower portion “Online Device” of the “Device Management” Tab, which will automatically input some of the device information.
If you select the “+Add” button under “Device for Management,” the “Add” Window will pop up. Here you will manually enter all your Device Information to allow NVMS7000 to add the device successfully into the software.
The Device Information to enter are as follows:
Nickname – Make up a name for the device.
Address – This is the device’s IP Address.
Port – This is the device’s server port. (Default value is 8000, unless you have changed it)
Username – This will be “admin”
Password – This is the password to the device, created when activating the device.
Export to Group – This will automatically export the Encoding Channel, Alarm Input, Zone, and Access Control Point to the Group Folder for this Device.
Export to group will only work automatically if all the device information was inputted correctly and the device was added successfully the first time. You can tell if the device was added successfully because, 1 - a small window in the bottom right corner will say so, and 2 – The device serial number will populate under the “Device Serial No.” column on the “Device for Management” section of the “Device Management Tab”. If the small window in the bottom right corner says the device was not added successfully, and the device serial number does not populate automatically, then the device was not added successfully, and thus the Group has not been exported successfully either.
Additionally, after a device has been unsuccessfully added into the software, if you select your device and select modify, and correct the error that was made, you will notice you no longer have the option to “Export to Group,” and even if you add the device successfully after clicking modify, you will need to export the group manually. Therefore, it may be easier to simply delete the device that was unsuccessfully added and re-add it again. This will allow the software to export to group automatically.
If you select your device in the “Online Device” section on the “Device Management” Tab, and then click “+ Add to Client,” some of the device information will be inputted automatically. (Primarily the Address, and Port.) Adding this way, you will need to enter the rest of the device information. (Note – if there is a password entered automatically, it may be wise to re-enter the password manually, to ensure that the device is added successfully, and the group is exported automatically.

Card Reading in 8 Digit and 10 Digit?
Card Readers can be set to read Cards in either 8 Digits or 10 Digits. It is best practice to have all the Card Readers on site to read the same number of digits. Some Card Readers have a set of dipswitches on their back side. To set a Card Reader with dipswitches to read Cards in 8 Digits, dipswitches 6 and 7 will be “On” (Up). To set a Card Reader with dipswitches to read Cards in 10 Digits, only dipswitch 6 will be “On” (Up). Card Readers that do not have any dipswitches will have an extra wire for “26/34.” Card Readers with the “26/34” wire can be set to read in 10 Digits by leaving the “26/34” wire disconnected from the Reader Terminal on the Access Control Unit. Card Readers with the “26/34” wire can be set to read in 8 Digits by connecting the “26/34” wire to the G (ground) Terminal on the Door Terminal of the Access Control Unit. When changing a Card Reader from reading in 8 Digits to 10 Digits or 10 Digits to 8 Digits, the Card Reader must be power cycled to apply the change.
How to do a Firmware Update?
To find the latest firmware for your Access Control Unit go to:
( www.ltsecurityinc.com ) go to:
Support --> Downloads ( http://www.ltsecurityinc.com/downloads )
Scroll down the page until you see “Product Firmware.” Enter the Full and Complete Model Number of your Access Control Device into the Search box under “Product Firmware.” The list will then populate with firmware for the Model Number entered in the search bar. Click the “Download” link and save the zipped folder containing the firmware to your computer. Go to the folder where you have saved the zipped folder and unzip the folder (Extract the contents of the zipped folder). This will yield a folder containing the firmware “.bin” file. Return to the “Device Management” Tab in NVMS7000 PC Client. Select your Access Control Device and click “Remote Configuration.” When the “Remote Configuration” pop up window loads go to “System Maintenance” under “System.” Select the “…” button towards the right of “Select File” under “Remote Upgrade.” This will open up a window that will allow you to navigate to and select the “.bin” file from above. Find the correct “.bin” file, select the correct “.bin” file and click “Open.” Then Click the “Upgrade” button. Once the upgrade is complete a pop-up window will say “Upgrading succeeded. Reboot the device to activate the new settings. Continue?” Click “OK”. The Device will reboot and will now be running the updated firmware.
How to Wire Card Readers.
All Card Readers will come with a Sticker Label identifying each of the Card Reader’s wires by color. The Card Reader Terminals on the Access Control Unit are as follows:
OK = Okay
ERR = Error
BEEP = Beep
W1 = Weigand 1 / Data 1
W0 = Weigand 0 / Data 0
12V = 12 Volts Power Supply for Card Reader
G = Ground
How to Wire Doors.
V+ from the Power Supply always connects to COM Terminal on the Door Terminal of the Access Control Unit
V+ for a Mag Lock always connects to N.C. Terminal (Normally Closed Circuit) on the Door Terminal of the Access Control Unit
V+ for a Strike will connect to either N.C. (Normally Closed Circuit) or N.O. (Normally Open Circuit) depending on the Strike.
V- for a Mag Lock or Strike will always connect to V- from the Power Supply.
The Door Terminals on the Access Control Unit are as follows:
N.C = Normally Closed Circuit
COM = Common
N.O. = Normally Open Circuit
B = Button
G = Ground
S = Sensor
How to determine if a Strike is N.O. or N.C.
Strikes can be either Normally Open Circuits, or Normally Closed Circuits, depending on the Strike. To determine whether a Strike is N.O. or N.C., disconnect the Strike from any power and check to see if the Latch is released or locked. If the Strike is disconnected from power, and the Strike’s Latch is released, then the Strike needs power to lock the Latch, and is thus a Normally Closed Circuit (The Strike needs a closed circuit to provide power to lock the Latch). If the Strike is disconnected from power, and the Strike’s Latch is locked, then the Strike does not need power to lock the Latch, and is thus a Normally Opened Circuit (The Strike needs an opened circuit to keep the Latch locked).
How to Wire a Button
A button can be wired to the Door Terminal of the Access Control Unit, to allow the Door to be opened with the push of a button. For a 2 wired N.O. button, connect 1 wire to the B (Button) Terminal on the Door Terminal of the Access Control Unit, and connect 1 wire to the G (Ground) Terminal on the Door Terminal of the Access Control Unit.
For Buttons with more than 2 wires, consult with the button’s packaging to determine what each of the colored wires is designated for. An Example is:
V+ = V+ Power for Button LED
V- = V- Power for Button LED
N.O. = Normally Open Button Connection
COM = Common Button Connection
N.C. = Normally Closed Button Connection
For a 5 wire button, COM will connect to the B (Button) Terminal on the Door Terminal of the Access Control Unit, and N.O. will connect to the G (Ground) Terminal on the Door Terminal of the Access Control Unit.
