The Thermal camera is designed for helping measure the object temperature. The installation of the Thermal Camera is very different than the Traditional IP camera.
The camera has two lenses with each different purpose, the HD resolution camera lens for the overview. Temperature lens for the measurement. However, the camera resolution and lens angle are quite different. Therefore, the installation position is extremely important.
The recommended distance between the camera and measured objects is depended on the focal length of the lens.
Camera Lens | Recommended Distance in-between | Covered Width of Monitored Path |
6mm | 1.5m (4.92 feet) | 0.92m |
3mm | 1m (3.28 feet) | 0.67m |
For cameras with 6mm lens, this distance is recommended to be set as 1.5m; at this distance, the covered width of the monitored path is 0.92m.
For cameras with 3mm lens, this distance is recommended to be set as 1m; at this distance, the covered width of the monitored path is 0.67m.
Always point the object to the center of the camera.
Make sure the camera Center point is pointing to the object center itself. Please don't do it on the side angle. The reason is just like I mentioned before; the camera resolution and angle is very different. From the camera center point to the edge, more close to the edge will get a strong shift angle effect.
That also explains the recommended distance in between and covered width. If you put the camera on the edge, or the measured object is not in the center of the video. When it merges the HD normal image with the thermal image together, will create a ghost shifting position image with an inaccurate result. Therefore, the installation position is very important. Always pointing the object to the center of the camera itself.
Blackbody (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_body)
I'm not describing what is the blackbody. I just simply explain what is for and how it works. When the room temperature is getting higher, every measure object's temperature will get higher in the spectrum. You need a comparison object; like blackbody can constantly provide a precise temperature degree and use to compare with the current environment temperature. And the camera will be based on this to calculate the adjustment on the basis, then you can get the correct object temperature. Therefore, use the blackbody as the comparison can enhance precision.
Installation location: (Please check the PDF for more detail)
The recommended distance between the camera and the blackbody is recommended to be 1.2m. The blackbody is recommended to be installed at a height of 1.7m, with an elevation angle of 20°. Ensure that the black body appears in the upper left / upper right corner of the camera view. Make sure that the blackbody would not be blocked by any other target during temperature measurement.
Conclusion:
When you set up the Thermal camera and blackbody, both devices are more close to the measurement object itself, the number will get more accurate. Recommend use Tripod device
